Textile collage, 16 x 20 inches
Montana is a versatile visual artist whose work includes painting, needle point, collages, dolls, and puppets that sometimes depict friends and family. She has a focus on floral patterns in her needle point—a process that involves first drawing her flowers free-hand, and then stitching the flowers with a high degree of focus. Despite having limited vision Montana is a visual artist who works hard through the process, looking closely at her work, making each stitch meticulously.
Over her two years at the Nina, Montana has developed a body of work that includes collages and pod pieces, incorporating a diverse array of materials such as buttons, pins, bows, pearls and sequins. Her favourite colours to work with are pinks and blues that can be seen in her screen printing of natural scenery and abstract floral paintings. Montana is enthusiastic about her enormous progress, and looks forward to finishing her current doll piece.
