Desiree McCook has lived in Edmonton all her life. She has been painting and drawing at the Nina for several years, working primarily with pastel, acrylic paint, and pencil crayon. Her subject matter is often sea creatures and other animals, abstracted using circular mark making.
In 2013 she had her first solo exhibition, “It’s A Whale”, in the Stollery Gallery. “I liked people coming to visit and showing people my art. I like to get paid when I do my art.” She sold just about everything in the show and hopes to have another show in the future.
Currently Des is working in the Nina’s studio at the Orange Hub on some larger scale paintings and drawings. These pieces were exhibited in the Kaasa Gallery at the Jubilee Auditorium.
In addition to her art, Des enjoys her Outing Club: “That’s where we plan outings and then we go on the outings, to movies and everything.”
