About this artist
Carrie is an artist who was born in Fort Saskatchewan and moved to Edmonton 41 yeas ago. She enjoys living in the city because it offers her more opportunities as an artist to show and sell her work. Carrie started as a painter when she was 14 and later moved into ceramics as well. “I love the similarities of painting and sculpture. They both can create a 3D effect and are tactile.”
Carrie finds inspiration for her ceramic work through her imagination and dreams. “I get a lot of ideas from my dreams… I use my imagination as much as possible. It’s easier to use my imagination then work off a picture.” Carrie’s work is often very abstract and whimsical.
Carrie’s love of art comes from her grandmother, who left all of her oil paints to Carrie when she passed away in 1999. Beyond painting at home, Carrie began working in ceramics in 2011 when she came to the Nina. “It feels soft in my hands.”
Her experience at the Nina has allowed her to connect with the community. “I have grown as an artist, and I always try to improve my art.” Carrie gives back to the community at the Farmers Market and by volunteering at events on Alberta Avenue. She says it allows her to meet other artists and gives her a connection to other people.
Carrie has had significant success as an artist, selling her work at the Nina, TIX on the Square Gift Shop, and at the Capilano Farmers Market. She is proud that one of her paintings is on display at a restaurant in the mall. She will also be showing her work on the Whyte Ave Art Walk this summer.
